Returning to Victoria from Perth, Port Lincoln and so on in company with another C172, we refueled at Aldinga and due to a deteriorating weather forecast for the Melbourne Geelong area, we elected to spend the night.

The person (lady) who seemed to be the manageress in the school could not have been more unhelpful with regard finding us some accommodation for the night.

Whilst thinking about what to do we met a really nice couple who own a hanger at Aldinga and they went out of their way to help us. Booked us into a lovely reasonably priced motel and picked us up in the morning and took us back to the airfield.

What rating should we give Aldinga? Gorgeous scenery and lovely location but not impressed with the service or unhelpful attitude.

You must be thinking about some other airport, or are you dreaming?

i have been burnt by the operators. I know of others that have been reported to CASA.

I know of others that have copped abuse. There is only one way at ADG and that is their way.

As stated, do not do what they do, do as they say otherwise you will get into strife, one way or the other. They are the new Messiah to the Aviation Industry and have stated that Australians have a bad flying culture and that they are going to change that.

They are. They are breeding a bunch of new breed aviators that treat our aviation culture and aviation scene with disdain and contempt and are to say the least, are plain arrogant and ignorant.

Be warned. It seems obvious that they do not care who they tread on.

As also stated, beware flying in there and agreed, exercise extreme caution.

Yes, they are nice and friendly when they want something from you or you wish to open your wallet.

Conclusion. Beautiful setting. Unfriendly atmosphere once understood that one is not spending money there.

Very friendly if they can get some money off you. Otherwise arrogant, do not do as we do, do as we say. Fly odd circuits and illegal right hand circuits.

Exercise extreme caution when approaching and in the circuit as no consideration toward others.

DO NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG

You will either get abused or dobbed in to CASA.

2 rules, one for them and one for others.

Such a shame as is beautiful setting that deserves better.

Yes they have a reputation for dobbing aviators in to CASA – I was warned!

The school is called Adelaide Biplanes, they have some kind of mental problem.

Just stick to rules and you will be OK, there own students can do what they like.

Also beware of aircraft landing in any direction on any strip at the same time – its pretty crazy – well it was when I landed there a few time on my SA holiday.

It doesn't look like an airport. Perhaps it's mean Westmead Hospital helipad (33.8052 S, 150.9892 E) ?

Fri, 28 Aug 2009

I've moved the airport marker to what looks like an airstrip near those coordinates.

The Google marker is showing the wrong locaton. The airstrip is actually about 7km west of where it is marked. If you look at the township of Cabramurra, the airstrip is about 2km NE of the township - you can see it pretty obvious on the satellite photo. Half of the airstrip is a bitumen surface, the rest is hard packed gravel, and there is a now a cloud seeding testign staton adjacent to the airstrip (as well as a weather station which has been there since around 1960).

Never realised how fast this operation takes... a few seconds. No time for chit-chat or welcome drinks.... off and away again.

I was so nervous nearly missed the approach. Lovely place to have a snack.

A lovely country side aerodrome. A small club with several aircrafts, and many friendly people. Thanks RNAC

Closed and sold for industrial land 2008. So ends the history of a useful WW2 vintage airport. Sad to think that the Commonwealth Government sold all three Sydney GA airports to the same greedy organisation.

hi, just checking out the net and saw your request about the Dove at Wallan airfeild, the bad news is the engines were removed and sold on and the rest was sold to a collector, who collects old things, pity it ended up that way, it was a nice old girl, bit of a bitch to land in a good crosswind due to the riley conversion on the rudder slightly smaller than the normal rudder, there is one at the Morrabbin musem at morrabbin airport victoria, they might like to sell there`s as its only a static display rego VH-ABM,

regards

Steve

This airport is a former RAAF base, originally opened in 1940, and the only RAAF base built in Tasmania.

This is one of the RAAF's three "bare bases", ready for activation in case of a crisis.
