Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (IATA: HYD, ICAO: VOHS) (Telugu: రాజీవ్ గాంధీ అంతర్జాతీయ విమానాశ్రయము, Urdu: راجیو گاندھی بین الاقوامی ہوائی اڈےاڈے) also known as Hyderabad International Airport, is an international airport near Shamshabad, about 22 km (14 mi) south of downtown Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The airport is named after former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. It replaced the former international airport of the city, Begumpet Airport. Commercial flight operations began at 12:01 am on 23 March 2008. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the second public-private partnership venture in the Indian airports, the first being the Cochin International Airport. For the financial year 2010-11, it was the sixth busiest airport in the country in terms of international and overall passenger traffic.[2]
Hyderabad international airport has been named amongst the world's top five in the annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) passenger survey along with the ones at Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing.[3] In 2010, Hyderabad airport was ranked among the top airports of the world in the airport services quality (ASQ) by the global body, Airports Council International (ACI). It retained the number one position for the second year in a row among 49 airports handling 5-15 million passengers per annum (mppa).[4]
It serves as a hub for SpiceJet (future) and Lufthansa Cargo and also a focus city for Air India, Jet Airways, and Kingfisher Airlines.

Nadirgul is a small airstrip, 12 nm South-East of Hyderabad located on the Nagarjuna Sagar Highway. Nadirgul airfield has two runways both of which are just about 3000' long and 75' wide. The main runway is paved, while the second runway is un-paved.
This airfield has been serving primarily the needs of the aspiring trainee pilots in Hyderabad. As of now Andhra Pradesh Flying Club(APFC), Flytech Aviation Academy and Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy(RGAA) are using this field to train pilots. Flytech Aviation has set up its own hangar in this field.
Nadirgul has no instrument approach procedure laid as there are no radio navigational equipment installed. Nadirgul is classified to VMC conditions and no night landing facilities like REIL, REL, ALS, Taxiway lights, PAPI and VASI etc. are installed. The runway orientation is 10-28 paved surface. Interestingly, Nadirgul has an unpaved runway RW10R-RW28L parallel to the paved(and main)runway. The runway is slightly inclined towards RW28 (RW28 is 1804' and RW10 is 1790'). Local surface winds favor the use of RW28 till the late August and RW10 till the late February. Though not designated (and maintained) as a runway, a specific portion of the airfield is left as a cross-runway (RW14-RW32 they call). Though not often used, the primary idea is to facilitate any emergency landings, if needed during the training flights(trainees mostly fly single engine planes like Cessna 152 and Cessna 172). The circuit altitude is 2600' and the pattern is South of the field as North of Nadirgul is residential area. For all practical purposes, METAR and TAFOR issued for Hyderabad airport are used. Also, there is no specific ATC here, but the trainees usually do the needful.
After the opening of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, all the training flights were supposed to be shifted to the Begumpet Airport. But Nadirgul still remains active in service.

Vijayawada Airport can be developed and has potential to grow. Unfortunately, career politicians are not representing and who ever gets elected from Vijayawada are large scale farmers/industralists etc., they are busy in their respective businesses. Either Mr.Vadde Sobanadeswara Rao, Ex MP in Telugu Desam time or the current MP, Mr. Y.Rajagopal did not any thing for the growth of the city leave alone this airport, despite their own party has been in power both at State level and Central level. Vijayawada, which has been number 2 city in the state of Andhra Pradesh has gone down to 4th position as Vizag and Tirupathi have overtaken Vijayawada city in progress, employment etc. Hope at least, now, Mr. Rajagopal contribute in developing Vijayawada and its airport in this 2nd term. Otherwise, he will not find place in the history of Vijayawada after his active politics. Though decades have been passed, people still remember, KL Rao because, he did some thing for Vijayawada and the country.

This airport opened on 23 March 2008, replacing Hyderabad's old Begumpet airport VOHY (which is still open for military and some private aviation), and taking over the HYD IATA identifier.
On March 23, scheduled airline service to Begumpet stopped and switch to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (VOHS), which also took over the "HYD" IATA identifier. Begumpet is still used for some private aviation and as a military air base.

I see Rajahmundry bagged up a new terminal building and provides good facilities to the passengers. I have been travelling from Vijayawada from past five years and see no improvement till now. I am not sure what the parliamentarian MR Rajagopal is doing good for the Vijayawada citizens. Even it is shame for CM and many other celebrities who visit Vijayawada often.
Rajagopal - you will be definitely kicked in your next elections for sure !!
