Stopped in here in December 2009 -- 100LL was under $4.00/gal. City/County run airport with no fuel competition. Busy airport with nice terminal facilities. Lots of NASCAR customers. No restaurant at the airport, but the do have crew cars. TSS

You won't see the runway until on final, but the Wright Memorial is easy to see and about 300 yd east of the runway.

Rolling out on 2 or 20 you are about 500ft from where it all began in December 1903. Every pilot should land here. A literally awesome place.

I did all my training from first flight through commercial at Sugar Valley. It is a great airport. The narrow (24ft) runway is different for most pilots and the 60 foot trees just off the arrival end of 20 are interesting for most pilots. If anyone wants to buy an airport, it is for sale.

This is a private strip but I landed there several times while training out of Sugar Valley. It is neat how the north west end opens onto the Yadkin River.

The satellite image provided is more than 4 years old! KMRN now has new hangar buildings, a parallel taxiway from the mid-field ramp at taxiway C to the end of RWY 21, new pavement markings, two helipads next to the FBO building, and the wind sock and segmented circle have been relocated.

If you have a day to kick around... great location to fly the family to the beach. Park your aircraft, load up the beach chairs and walk across the highway to the beach. Check the weather carefully as winds make it difficult to land here. Not attended and no services available.

You should call ahead before flying in... no fuel available. Weather changes quickly -- no ASOS. Must register to park overnight, but stay is limited. No services available.

5000' runway, nice approaches, and super nice people. Lest I forget, there's also the 57A cafe next to the terminal. It's not haute cuisine but it is convenient and the pretty good.

I fly into 1A5 about 6 times per year from South Florida. Atl radar can keep you till 7000 below that you need clear skies there is no instrument appproach. Toccoa Toc is a great alternate with a GPS approach and is in the foothills of the mountains. Franklin has a very friendly staff and a real nice FBO. Was down in NC for vacation, decided to check out in and rent a 172 to give some friends a short tour of the southern NC coast. The check out instructor was nice and pointed out many sightseeing and local landmarks. Check-out was a *little* longer than I felt necessary, but again, was partly a sightseeing tour.
