Reply to @Cougar20:
OMG - what if that was your Granny, Mother, Sister, or Auntie? Is your life that horrible that you cannot find anything else in your heart to comment on other than you had to wait! What is this world coming too? You honestly need to pray and search for guidance in your life. HONESTLY

Reply to @Cougar20: maybe next time it will be our life at risk and youll realize what a jerk you are for complaining about a 2 hour wait

We were on our way to Punta Cana Intl when we were informed that a lady on our flight had a heart problem and we needed to land. It made everybody upset and we had to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours waiting for her to be treated. She was taken into the terminal building for treatment and then soon after we were on our way...took forever!
Open-style terminal building is really cool and highlights the tropical experience you'll have in the Caribbean.

Departed from El Catey airport June 2010 headed for Toronto then on to Calgary. Fantastic airport and what a relief from using Puerto Plata and then driving so far. Just wait for the new road to be completed and time to Las Terrenas will be even shorter again. Samana will no longer be the worlds best hidden secret. Visit me at my restaurant in Las Terrenas by sending me an email gordon@insuranceportal.ca. Paradise in paradise.

Reply to @david: no problem, any question on dominican republic i'll be glad to help.
Reply to @dominicanpilot: Thanks. Do you happen to know the new latitude/longitude of the VOR?
Reply to @dominicanpilot: Thanks for the update. The 2008 ICAO Location Indicators doc lists an MDBL as the identifier "Boca Chica/Batey Luisa". Is there a chance that there used to be an airport (or perhaps a heliport) somewhere in this area?
Reply to @dominicanpilot: thanks for the update -- I've marked the airport as closed.

This is not an airport and is not used by commertial nor private pilots. there is a new airport not active yet for The Marvelles Caves, but it's aproximately 15 NM east from this location.
Reply to @david: That's absolutly right david. and it's prohibited area just 3 NM From the main international airport MDSD (Las Americas).
The VOR Listed in the CJ-27 WAC for MDJB Joaquin Balaguer Int. (Higuero) Has Been Moved to MDCY (El Catey Int.) and is active on 115.8 (DCY), it's now located in the notrhen part of the island.
Reply to @dominicanpilot: There are some planes that weren't able to fly and were abandoned in place, a big part of the runway it's now being used by some chain stores and as a drag race place sponsored by brahma beer company.
The Herrera Airport Has Been Closed to All Traffic And It's Only used as a Landmark
Thu, 05 Mar 2009
According to the Wikipedia article, this airport closed in 2006 when airline traffic moved to La Isabela, and the military blocked the runway. There are a lot of planes on the apron in the Google satellite photo, though — could the photo really be three years old? More info would be appreciated.
This is the main base for the Dominican Air Force. It originally opened in 1953 as Trujillo Air Base, and was renamed to San Isidro Air Base in 1961. According to Wikipedia, most of the fixed- and rotor-wing fleet is based here.

The captain informed us it would be bumpy on landing. Bumpy as in severe turbulence bumpy. We made it in fine. The airport is more of a shack. Shows you how they did things in the pre computer era. Imagine checking in hundreds of people using stickers and pens. This is in 2005!
