The FBO guys were nice and friendly. Airport is about a 15-20 min walk to a number of restaurants. Close to the mountains too, so some great scenery in the area.
No problems with Customs guys. Called 207-473-7474, 2 hrs beforehand, and they were waiting for me at the GA Terminal (not the Passenger terminal). There is no courtesy car, but apparently lots of car rental companies are handy.

The Wikipedia article and FlightAware both say that Houlton currently has no scheduled airline service. I passed directly over Houlton on my flight from Ottawa to Charlottetown on Tuesday, and back again this morning, and didn't hear any airline flights inbound or outbound on Boston Centre's frequency.
It's a beautiful part of the US, by the way, especially with Mt. Katahdin a bit to the west.

Do airlines still fly out of Houlton?

In the 1980 and 90s, this was a USAF base that flew B-52 bombers and KC-135 tankers. I flew a PAR approach into there once, in a CH-135 Twin Huey, en route from YCX yo YOY. On short final, we were called "dangerously left of centerline" by the radar controller. Getting out of clouds at about 300 ft, we were about half way between the centreline and the edge of the runway... In a B-52 (wingspan = 185 ft), I agree that it would have been touchy, even on a 300 ft-wide runway; the wing-tip outriggers would have been in the daisies... but in a helicopter??? Anywhere within half a mile of the button is close enough! After "landing" on the runway (skid-equipped helicopter) we had to "roll" all the way to the high-speed turn-off, about 2/3 of the way down the runway, to air-taxi all the way back behind a follow-me truck to the transient ramp, abeam the threshold of the runway we had shot the approach to, at the south end of the airport. I guess helicopters were unusual beasts for their Operations staff.

Brunswick Naval air Station no longer exists. On April 02, 2011 the former NAS became a General Aviation airport named Brunswick Executive Airport BXM. Of the two 8000' runways only one is open for use: 1R and 19L. That is the runway to the East, nearest the tarmac. The FBO is located in the huge Hangar 6 at the North end of the runways.
