Very pleasant people here. Small air carrier on field as well as a small air guard squadron of aging fighter jets. If you need a repair definitely call Ken Gooch 541-882-5856. This is his cell. The man is a master! Just ask anyone on the field, they all know him. Funny too! He saved my butt. I landed and the fan immediately quit turning. It took Ken about thirty seconds to locate my problem and less than an hour to get me back in the air.

KDLS is one of those out of the way "Gem" airports. No real close amenities but the airport has a couple "free use" courtesy cars. Fill her up of course when done and show basic respect for the property. They will toss you the keys, no paper work not even Id just plain old country courtesy. Short drive to town for all your needs. I recommend the Country Cousins Hotel / Motel for a nights sleep. Be sure to eat at the Cousins restaurant, show up hungry. Big Jim's restaurant for a burger. When I was there the line was out the door so everyone in town likes the place too. I'm not one to frequent the Corporate places but you will find all those in town too.

Fly the Gorge, its beautiful. Watch for power lines and stay on your side of the road if flying low altitude. If flying under low clouds, when you reach the narrow part, fly to the center until clear. This is not my personal experience however passed to me from a worker / flyer at the airport. Very bumpy in the gorge when the wind is up. (Sept 2011)

The museum has been drastically updated over the past few years. If you were there say more than five years ago you won't recognize the place. Definitively worth a visit. After you land, either call the museum or ask the FBO for a shuttle ride. The walk to the museum is a short f or ten minutes but the 4 lane highway with a turn lane is busy and dangerous to cross. Cross at the light if you prefer to walk. I did, after the long flight from KBVS the walk was refreshing. Watch out for circling hawks at KMMV. There were a dozen or so the day I landed (September).

Too funny and inaccurate statement. Maybe one should talk to neighbors that have been here over 30 years.

unfortunately this person making these complaints moved in May 2010. The airport has been there since 72. Getting a better real estate agent or looking at a map could have solved their problems.

Reply to @david: The neighborhood has been around for 50 years and the airport only 20 something years. It always sounds like it is the homeowners fault but not true, in this case.

The airport has encroached and abused on the only settlement in the area with acres and acres of other land to fly. One pays higher prices in Oregon to live in the country and then the unscrupulous aviation interests slide things by the homeowners.

I'm sorry to hear the neighbours are unhappy. Is the airport new, or was it built before the homes around it? Flying circuits ("patterns" in the US) is a very important part of pilot training and practice for experienced pilots - the planes take off from one end of the runway, turn, fly the opposite direction beside the runway at about 1,000 ft above the ground, and then come back and land on the same runway again (and repeat).

This is a normal activity at any airport, but sometimes it can be hard for people nearby, which is why most airports were originally built far from densely-populated areas where they wouldn't bother too many people. Unfortunately, unscrupulous developers will often come in and built subdivisions near airports anyway, and then not tell buyers the whole truth about what it means living near an airport (personally, I don't mind planes at 1,000 ft over my house -- I can't usually hear them over the city noise of cars, trucks, buses, sirens, lawnmowers, and construction).

The pilots out of this airpark harass neighbors next to the airpark with their low flying, and continuous flying around properties.

Great landmark when flying the Black Rock / Owyhee area. Good emergency field, the associated ranch is about 3/4 mile East of the strip. Probably not a good idea to drop in uninvited without a really good reason.

If you haven't been to Stark's Twin Oaks Airpark, well get in your plane (or car) and head over to this little airport. It's a great place to train.

I learned to fly here in 1975. The Oregon State University Flying Club was based at KS12 at the time.

Reply to @david: Also, Airnav lists different runway lengths for the two runways. I'd suggest that maybe they used to be one and were cut in half - that would explain the remark about the ditch at one end of the runway.

Reply to @david: Both airports are in the FAA database, and they list different owners. Check out the AirNav.com listings.

This is, apparently, a separate airport from the adjacent Abba's Airport http://www.ourairports.com/airports/91OR/ -- see my comment on 91OR.

Several sources state that Abba's Airport and Bushnell Airport http://www.ourairports.com/airports/5OR2/ are two separate airports, though a labeled photo on airnav.com suggests that they might share their runway across two properties. Does anyone have more information?

I wanted to land here and hike to the lookout, but the winds were high and gusty at the canyon rim, so I limited myself to a touch&go and a flight along the rim of the canyon. I couldn't see a windsock after circling twice, so I suspect it was wrapped around the pole somewhere. The winds are always shifting along the canyon rim and I would recommend only landing early in the AM or at dusk, when it is calm and cooler.

Sorry to say I received the poorest service ever at any airport here. Hopefully they were just having a bad day.

Want to talk about an awesome museum?! This place has the WAAAM that houses a huge collection of early model FLYING aircraft and running automobiles. Everything is in perfect condition, even a Curtiss-Jenny with serial #1! As a bonus, you get to fly the Columbia Gorge to get there.

Easy access and a wonderful group of locals hanging out, ready to answer questions. They are also getting ready to base a beautiful, polished DC-3 at the airport. Not to be missed.

New FBO owners arrived late 07 but had the FBO here many years ago. They are 'retiring' here and are life-long aviation people who deserve our support. They are fixing it up, have reasonable gas prices, including Mogas, and have a courtesy car.

The restaurant here has the best fly-in food in NW Oregon. First class breakfast and very good lunch. Excellent service. And, you can sit outside under the tree and admire your own airplane -- and maybe some others as well.

Hermiston is a great little airport in NE Oregon just a couple miles south of the Columbia River on the Washington/Oregon border.

The 4,000 paved runway is in great shape (being overlayed in the fall of 2007) and fuel is among the cheapest in the area.

Be careful of the restricted airspace immediately to the West (the Boardman Bombing Range Complex).

There is an available crew car in decent shape.
